Weather: The weather has been fairly stable, much like the prediction for the next 10 days. The high temperature will vary from 80 to 82F and the low will move between 73 and 75. As for sunshine, there are two partly cloudy days and the rest are sunny or mostly sunny with at most 25% of precipitation. We have bumped into a few sprinkles, but nothing longer than ten minutes. On the right is Lambada on her sunset cruise. The setting sun is illuminating her sails. The center photo shows the local coast guard and nothing else. If you click on it, Saba will be visible in the larger version, giving you an idea as to how thick the marine haze has been.
Today's sun rose at 6:24AM and will set at 6:20PM for 11 hours and 55 minutes of sun.
The remaining full moons for 2019 are 20 Mar, 11 Apr, 18 May, 17 Jun, 16 Jul, 15 Aug, 13 Sep, 13 Oct, 12 Nov, and 12 Dec.

Beaches: Friar's Bay I've been told by visitors at the Toad (
Horny Toad Guesthouse) that the beach is in good shape and both Kali's and Friar's Bay Beach Bar are in operation. (photo on right)
Cupecoy: There is no beach behind Sapphire and the workers have been repairing the access under unit 5, so there is no access to the non-beach. There are people (mostly naked) on the beach behind the parking lot and Ocean Club. WendyK tells me that there is actual sand at ShorePointe.

Gasoline and Rental Cars: Michael at Unity Car Rental sponsors this section. The Cadisco on the lagoon between the French Bridge and Marigot is selling gas at 1.01 per liter. they do 1 to 1 on the dollar so the price on the pump is dollars IF you use cash. Given that there are 3.785 liters per gallon, the current price is $3.82 per gallon. There are two other Cadisco stations but they are more expensive.

Alcohol: We have stopped in several times to see Sylvain, the owner of Select Wine Cellar and part owner of Champagne Bistro, but because of a staff departure, he has had to work over the lunch hour rather than dine with us. If you like wine and are looking for a good time, consider a wine tasting. Sylvain can put together a late afternoon or evening tasting with dining options from a wine and cheese tasting to a complete four-course dinner paired with great selections from his cellar.

Last week the Euro was at 1.137. Today it's at 1.12345 . That's the lowest it has been this year.
With the Euro moving down against the dollar, restaurants doing 1 to 1 are rare. But as restaurants offering 1 to 1 decrease, it behooves those of us with dollars to check the exchange rate offered by restaurants. You should be aware of the rate and if it is bad, ask that the charge be made in euros. Use a credit card that offers a good exchange rate and does not add a fee. My Quicksilver card from Capital 1 offers a good rate and does not add a fee. Even better it gives me back 1.5% on any purchase.
Super U was offering 1 to 1 in January originally, continued doing so in February and they still were doing 1 to 1 in March. So bring cash and save about 13% on groceries. La Villa in Grand Case has been doing 1 to 1 since they opened.

RESTAURANTS
Kakao
On Sunday we had lunch at Kakao on Orient Beach with Patricia and Timothy from L'Esperance Hotel in Phiipsburg. Their hotel had minimal damage from Irma, but the roof on their home in Cole Bay was lost. Having Paella is a tradition on Sundays in Orient Beach. On the right is the Paella chef who did a wonderful job making our lunch. It's not cheap, because of the tasty seafood and shellfish, but it's worth it with a couple bottles of Perrin organic Côtes du Rhône. Our cost was about $45 per person. Below is a view from our table in the sand looking over the beach to Pinel Island.

Be Kool
On Tuesday we went to Be Kool for lunch in the Marigot Marina Royale. We were headed elsewhere, but many places were closed for Mardi Gras, especially those on the parade route for the afternoon's festivities. We ordered water and Jaboulet's Côtes du Rhône (right , 21€). The amuse bouche in the shot glass was a nice touch. Martha had the special salad for the day (left, 13.75€). It had asparagus, shrimp , bresaola, camembert, and more. I had pork tenderloin with cèepes, some veg, and wonderful fries (your choice for potatoes) (center, 19€). Our total cost was about $68.

Wasabi Charlie
We had Friday dinner at Wasabi Charlie, the newest member of the Pineapple Pete empire. It has replaced the sports bar. We started with shrimp tempura (left) and a couple Sapporo beers. We went on to a boat of sushi, sashimi, and various rolls ($69). It was nice to look at, very tasty, and more than enough for two people. They add a 15% tip to the bill and offer a spot for you to add more on the credit card slip. I did, bringing the total to $115, inexpensive for us, but we save a bunch by drinking two beers for $10 rather than an expensive bottle of wine.

Auberge Gourmande
We had Saturday dinner at Auberge Gourmande in Grand Case, but stayed up too late to put together a review. I'll put it in next week, but here is a hint: a nice table on the covered porch and a lovely filet mignon with morel sauce and five bite-sized taste sensations.

News and Changes: We sometimes post some dining photos to
Facebook. Less frequently we post activities and other things related to SXM or food. If you're interested, I trust you know what to do. BTW, there are several Erich Kranzes. Do not be fooled, accept no substitutes: Erich S. Kranz
